ALBANY-Karen A. (Murphy) Townsend, 57, died suddenly, July 20, 2011 after being stricken at home.
Born in Brooklyn, NY she was the daughter of the late James and Alice (O’Toole) Murphy. Karen grew up in Glasco, NY and was a graduate of Saugerties High School. She worked at the Jewish Community Center as a childcare provider. Her life centered around her family and the children she cared for. She was a loving and caring person whose presence always made others’ happy.
Karen was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Krystin Townsend and her brother, Michael Murphy. Survivors include her loving children, Jennifer, Jayson and Scott Townsend; her daughter-in-law Kristen Smith-Townsend; her sister, Alice Phillips; her cherished grandchildren, Jordan and Alysha Townsend; former husband, William Townsend; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, July 25, 2011 in the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may also call at the funeral home on Sunday, July 24, 2011 from 2 to 6 pm. Karen will be buried next to her beloved daughter in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions in Karen’s name be made to The Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region, 139 South Lake Avenue, Albany, NY 12208.
