SELKIRK- Joyce Tolentino passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer on July 11, 2012. She was surrounded by her loving family and many friends in the comfort of her home. Joyce was born in Albany, New York on January 19, 1954, and was raised in Selkirk, attended RCS Schools, and graduated from SUNY Delhi. Joyce was the daughter of the late Agnes Good and John R. Good. Joyce was predeceased by her husband William C. Gannon and is survived by her loving husband John E. Tolentino, devoted children Anthony Gannon and Jennifer Gannon, beloved sisters Betty Nolan (Mike), Marilyn Stangle (Dick), brother John Good (Rita) brothers- in- law Steven, Peter, and Robert (Lori) Tolentino, step-sons Joey, Billy, and Robert Gannon. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. She will be dearly missed by her beloved pets Candy and Sammy.
Joyce was a devoted Licensed Veterinarian Technician for 40 years, the last 9 working at the East Greenbush Animal Hospital with a staff of awesome and supportive employees and co-workers. Prior to that she worked for 31 years at the Aqueduct Animal Hospital in Schenectady NY.
Joyce was an accomplished outdoors woman achieving her Adirondack 46er designation between April 27, 2002 and September 24, 2002 where she finished on Whiteface Mountain as a member of Phil’s Rangers. In addition Joyce earned her Catskill 3500 and Catskill Winter 3500 Certification. Joyce lived to Garden, Hike, and Canoe. She was a constant reminder to all who knew her how important it was to stay focused on your goals no matter the adversity, and to enjoy everyday to its fullest. She viewed cancer as a gift and reminder to live each day as if it were your last. This was a lesson she shared with many over the last several years.
Joyce was very active in Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of America. Joyce was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem.
Joyce was particularly grateful for the special love, encouragement, and support provided to her by her “Brain Trusts”: Joyce Irwin, Jan Jones, Donna Anderson, Dr. Deb Chew, Betty Nolan, Heather Constantine, Annie Vernooy and Carol Mc Donald.
